East Flat Rock

History

East Flat Rock, so-called because it is east of the community of Flat Rock, was once incorporated as a town.  In the early 1900s, a town began to grow around a mill and train station, and had some of the only electricity in the county.  In 1926, the town of East Flat Rock was incorporated, but after the Depression, residents no longer wanted to pay the municipal taxes, so they voted to dissolve the incorporation.
